I wish they had used a fill light on a lot of those sex scenes, but it's amazing what the professional industry was capable of with some inspiration, a few props, dancers, a lot of chutzpah and a bit of dazzle—taking a simple story of a disillusioned photographer falling in love with his colleague and finding new purpose in his work and giving it an almost psychedelic quality with the fantasy sequences. Tongue is firmly planted in cheek with this fun little bit of burlesque, but I can already hear some of the detractors who might say that style is put over substance in this movie (in other words, not enough sex scenes; too much plot). Well, I'm glad there are adult movies like this that aren't just balls-to-the-wall balling. Definitely a great "couples movie." The mud scene was peculiar (I kept hoping it was melted chocolate), but it had a purpose, too (an in joke for historians, and a nod to all those patriotic Americans in the audience). The Gong Show reference will be lost on younger viewers, but I got it and thought it was precious. The disco ball fantasy was probably my favorite for the burlesque nature of the whole thing. Don't know about the editing in the first sex sequence, though. Maybe a bit too arty? You tell me. Would love to see this exceptionally entertaining adult fantasy film in HD one day.
